This is an optional course for the specialty of electrical engineering and its automation, mainly introducing basic constructions, functions, requests, principia and characteristics of common automatic devices of power system. The main contents of the course include the following 5 aspects: automatic parallel operation of synchronous generators, excitation automatic control system of synchronous generators, dynamic characteristics of excitation automatic control system, automatic regulation of real power and frequency of power system, and automatic load shedding with lower frequency and other safety automatic devices.

Course Description:
Though the experiments students can understand the basic characteristics of the prime mover of the generator unit and the operational principle of microcomputer governor,master the operation method of generator’s start and speed regulation and excitation and stop. Students can understand the principle of power system analysis software, write simple short-circuit current calculation programs, and improve the computer application ability. Though the experiments students can learn about excitation mediation performance and operation, master the method of quasi-synchronizing parallel operation, microcomputer coordination and manual of operation, know the change of the indexes with the generator synchronizing. Though the experiments students can obtain the knowledge about the power flows and voltage drops in power networks, regulation of real power and frequency of power system, regulation of reactive power and voltage control of power system.
