Course Description：
The aim of this course is to provide the students with a thorough understanding of basic concepts, principles and applications of high-voltage engineering.
At the end of the course the students are expected to master the following parts: Basic electrical phenomena of gas: the physical process and two basic theories; Electrical intensity of gas medium: its breakdown characteristics in different electric fields and atmosphere conditions and methods to improve the electrical intensity of gas electrolyte; Disruptive discharge and insulation characteristics connected to fluid and solid; Surges along transmission lines including transformers; Lightning and its over voltages and protections; Switching over voltage: its sources, classification and features; Insulation co-ordination.
